Da Novacco

From Novacco
Cross-country skiing center "from Novacco", named after the town, this sport can be practiced almost all winter and is extremely enjoyable. Novacco can be reached either from Saracena, via a road that branches off at the entrance to the town, and which, through pine and beech woods, climbs up to the plateaus, or for those coming from the North, via the A3 motorway, using the Campotenese exit.
From Novacco, among others, we recommend an excursion to Mount Scifarello (1650 m high), and Mount Caramolo (1827 m high), the latter easy for everyone, from whose summit, on clear days, you can observe the majestic and granite chain of Pollino, which dominates the wide basin of Castrovillari and slopes gently towards the blue Ionian Sea. To the south-west of the town flows the Garga river which, in the Madonna della Fiumara area, forms a "coquettish" artificial lake, which feeds a hydroelectric plant. Other waterways are called Rossale, and Venaglie. Saracena for its ancient origins has important archaeological sites such as those of: Città Vetere, cave of S. Michele (called S. Angelo), cave Campanella (6th century BC).
